Sunita’s Story
I was diagnosed with Kienböck’s disease, a rare wrist condition that causes the lunate bone to die due to lack of blood supply. I experienced severe wrist pain, stiffness, and limited mobility, making everyday activities like cooking, writing, and even holding my child a challenge.
After trying conservative treatments, my doctor recommended surgery. I underwent scapholunate fusion procedure, where the damaged lunate bone fused with scaphoid bone, and the wrist joint was reconstructed.
The recovery process was not long as suggested by some consultants that it will take 4-6 months. I wore a cast for two weeks and my consultant advised for Arthrokinetic therapy to get good results. I had heard first time this name as generally physiotherapy is advised. But my consultant on 2nd week referred to Dr Amar for Arthrokinetic therapy. He did something in my joints which makes my hand relaxed and suggested some exercises which I have to do at home and asked to come after 4 weeks of surgery. Then in next 2 weeks I regain my strength and mobility. There were times when I felt frustrated and doubted my decision to have surgery.
But slowly, I started to notice improvements. The pain subsided, and I could move my wrist without discomfort. I learned to adapt to the new range of motion and strength in my wrist.
It’s been two months since the surgery, and I’m thrilled with the outcome. I can now perform daily activities without pain, and I’ve even started practicing yoga and painting again – hobbies I thought I’d never enjoy due to my condition.
I’m grateful for my surgeon’s expertise and the support of my family and friends. Kienböck’s disease was a challenging journey, but I’m proud to have overcome it.
